Sally Newton
Sally Newton’s work speaks to ancestral connections to land and rural life, using simplified
marks and reduced colours. She studied B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art (Printmaking) at Cambridge
School of Art and now works with oils and drawing materials.
Her studio is in Hampshire, though she is often found amongst the landscape working directly.
In 2021, from an artist residency at Cholderton Estate, an organic farm on the Wiltshire and
Hampshire border, the abstract landscape paintings that she has developed since emerged.
The artist’s intention is to seek marks that convey the experience of inhabiting the landscape.
Looking for dynamic and visually expressive ways of communicating, her paintings work to
capture the stillness of a place.
